How to Set OEM Information on Windows

What is OEM Information?

    OEM Information refers to the Original Equipment Manufacturer information that is embedded in the firmware of a computer or device. This information includes details about the manufacturer, model number, product name, and other relevant details related to the hardware.
    This information is used by the operating system and other software to identify the computer or device and to provide drivers or updates specific to the hardware. OEM information can also be used by computer manufacturers to brand their devices with their company name and logo.
    Users can view OEM information by checking the system properties or system information settings on their computers.


    You can set the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) information on Windows using the System Properties window. This information includes the manufacturer name, model, support URL, and logo that appears on the System Properties window and on the About Windows dialog box.

Here are the steps to set OEM information on Windows:

  1. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key + R.
  2. Type "sysdm.cpl" in the Run dialog box and press Enter. This will open the System Properties window.
  3. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Click on the "Settings" button under the "User Profiles" section.
  5. Click on the "Add" button to create a new user profile.
  6. Enter a name for the new user profile and click on "OK".
  7. Select the newly created user profile and click on the "Copy To" button.
  8. In the "Copy To" window, enter "%WINDIR%\System32\oeminfo.ini" in the "Copy profile to" field and click on "OK".
  9. In the "oeminfo.ini" file, enter the OEM information such as the manufacturer name, model, support URL, and logo.
  10. Save the "oeminfo.ini" file and close it.
  11. Close the System Properties window.
  12. Press the Windows key + Pause/Break to open the System window.
  13. The OEM information you entered should now be displayed under the "Windows specifications" section.
Note: You need administrator privileges to perform these steps.

How to Set OEM Information on Windows XP

    To set OEM information on Windows XP, you need to create a file named "oeminfo.ini" in the System32 folder and add the OEM information to it. Here are the steps:

  1. Open Notepad or any other text editor.
  2. Type the following lines in the text editor
        [General]
        Manufacturer=Your Manufacturer Name
        Model=Your Model Name
        [Support Information]
        Line1=Your Company Name
        Line2=Your Company Address
        Line3=Your Company Phone Number
        Line4=Your Company Website

     Replace "Your Manufacturer Name", "Your Model Name", "Your Company Name", "Your Company Address", "Your Company Phone Number", and "Your Company Website" with the actual information.

    3. Click on "File" and then "Save As".
    4. Change the "Save as type" to "All Files".
    5. Save the file as "oeminfo.ini" in the following folder:
        C:\WINDOWS\system32

Note: If there is already an "oeminfo.ini" file in the System32 folder, you can edit it instead of creating a new file.

    6. Close the text editor.
    7. Open the System Properties window by right-clicking on "My Computer" and selecting                         "Properties".
    8. Click on the "General" tab.
    9. Click on the "Support Information" button.
  10. The OEM information you entered should now be displayed.

Note: Make sure to backup the original "oeminfo.ini" file before making any changes. Also, editing the system files incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Proceed at your own risk.

How to Set OEM Information on Windows 7

To set OEM information on Windows 7, you need to modify the registry. Here are the steps:
  1. Click on the Start menu and type "regedit" in the search box.
  2. Click on "regedit.exe" to open the Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation
  4. If the OEMInformation key does not exist, right-click on the "CurrentVersion" key, select "New" and then "Key". Name the key "OEMInformation".
  5. In the right-hand pane of the Registry Editor, right-click and select "New" and then "String Value". Name the string values as follows:
    • Manufacturer: Enter the name of the manufacturer in the "Value data" field.
    • Model: Enter the model of the computer in the "Value data" field.
    • SupportHours: Enter the support hours in the "Value data" field.
    • SupportPhone: Enter the support phone number in the "Value data" field.
    • SupportURL: Enter the support URL in the "Value data" field.
    • Logo: Enter the path of the logo file in the "Value data" field. The logo file should be in BMP format and its size should be less than 120x120 pixels.
  6. Close the Registry Editor.
  7. Open the System Properties window by right-clicking on "Computer" and selecting "Properties".
  8. The OEM information you entered should now be displayed under the "Windows edition" section.
Note: Make sure to back up your registry before making any changes. Also, editing the registry incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Proceed at your own risk.

How to Set OEM Information on Windows 10

    To set OEM information on Windows 10, you can use the System Properties window or modify the registry. Here are the steps for both methods:

Using the System Properties window:

  1. Press the Windows key + Pause/Break to open the System window.
  2. Click on "Advanced system settings".
  3. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Click on the "Settings" button under the "User Profiles" section.
  5. Click on the "Add" button to create a new user profile.
  6. Enter a name for the new user profile and click on "OK".
  7. Select the newly created user profile and click on the "Copy To" button.
  8. In the "Copy To" window, enter "%WINDIR%\System32\oeminfo.ini" in the "Copy profile to" field and click on "OK".
  9. In the "oeminfo.ini" file, enter the OEM information such as the manufacturer name, model, support URL, and logo.
  10. Save the "oeminfo.ini" file and close it.
  11. Close the System Properties window.
  12. The OEM information you entered should now be displayed under the "Device specifications" section in the Settings app.
Using the registry:
  1. Click on the Start menu and type "regedit" in the search box.
  2. Click on "regedit.exe" to open the Registry Editor.
  3. Navigate to the following registry key:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation
  4. If the OEMInformation key does not exist, right-click on the "CurrentVersion" key, select "New" and then "Key". Name the key "OEMInformation".
  5. In the right-hand pane of the Registry Editor, right-click and select "New" and then "String Value". Name the string values as follows: 
    • Manufacturer: Enter the name of the manufacturer in the "Value data" field.
    • Model: Enter the model of the computer in the "Value data" field.
    • SupportHours: Enter the support hours in the "Value data" field.
    • SupportPhone: Enter the support phone number in the "Value data" field.
    • SupportURL: Enter the support URL in the "Value data" field.
    • Logo: Enter the path of the logo file in the "Value data" field. The logo file should be in BMP format and its size should be less than 120x120 pixels.
  6. Close the Registry Editor.
  7. Open the System Properties window by right-clicking on "This PC" and selecting "Properties".
  8. The OEM information you entered should now be displayed under the "Device specifications" section in the Settings app.
